Traditional Philippine music has been influenced by other cultures as a result of either intercultural meetings or colonization.
Some of its forms include:
Ethnic = example: percussion music using the gong to express a five-toe or a seven-tone notation
Hispanic = examples: Sarswela and the Rondalla
Filipino = examples: Awit at korido
Korido (metrical story sang with a guitar) = examples: Biag ni Lam-ang and Florante at Laura
Music would be impossible to express without the use of melody. Melody refers to the succession or notes played one after another under the accompaniment of musical instruments.
Classifications of Philippine traditional musical instruments:
Bamboos that are blown - aerophones
Bamboos that are struck - idiophones
Bamboos that are plucked - chordophones
